Villanelle: Conjoined By Jaya Avendel

We are born of breath and bone

In a crystalline world
We linger on alone.

Your heart grew bloodstone
Whilst mine became purled
We are born of breath and bone.

I have unsewn
Nightmares where dreams whirled
We linger on alone.

Your hair is perfumed with cologne
What sins have you unfurled?
We are born of breath and bone.

Memory of our mother’s moan
Once knitted, smooth, purled
We linger on alone.

Birthed from a broken throne
No joy waiting to be twirled
We are born of breath and bone
We linger on alone.
