in the torn-apart years by John Sweet

growing up in some pale grey
ghost town of tomorrow or
maybe not growing up at all

maybe making the wrong choice
in the wrong house on a
dead-end street

tells his mother that his
father hated her and she laughs,
says he hated all of them

no secrets

no punches pulled

everywhere,
the kingdom of nil
