Last Stamp by Sy Roth
Julius Caesar’s essence became a stopper in a wine cask
And I have ambition as well
A veni, vici chorus of spine-tingling lyrics.
Virgil led me through the door
Inscribed– welcome all ye who enter.
I want to become Essence exhaled into the ether
To take residence in the corpus callosum.
Become a veritable bridge builder.
Create hemispheric ambivalence
Where I can laugh and cavort on an electric trail
Leaping from one synaptic arch to the next
Mischievous imp of the perverse.
What a joyous ride that would be
As my mortal coil is shucked for this
Electric being rolling in a fun-ride park–
Idiot’s Trabant on a cruise through
Byways and dark alleyways.
The ground seems an unstable home
Marking the fields
Littering the with interminable markers,
Stamps of a once-existence.
I desire the ether
Where my molecules have invisible permanence
Where they can be sneezed out
Carried by the wind,
A porterage of persistence,
To transferred drop zones for the illicit.
Gain entrance on the sly
And take up residence in a million brain cells
All awash with dreams of invincibility.
Make this a lasting stamp
Stomping ground for the feeble.
