Two Young Hippies by Ryan Quinn Flanagan

The squirrels come up
and eat right out of your hand.

I watch two young hippies
pull their hands away with amazement
after each encounter.

And they are young.
The hippies I mean.

The squirrels are seasoned veterans
of the game.

They know the score.

And the soft young boy
has his hair tied back
in a man bun.

The young girl with many brown
henna designs down her arms.

A long flowing dress
like you find in the thrift
stores.

Where the winos fall asleep
in the change rooms
an have to be removed
by security.
