Columbus Was My Friend by John Garmon

Columbus was my friend
He held me in his heart
And we began
Sailing to an unknown land
He taught me how to sail
To make the canvas snap
We spoke of things to come
We gazed across the waves
He said don’t be afraid
We would find the way
I knew I should obey
The heaving sea said yes
Valleys and hills of foam
Ran to the blind horizon
Gray sky spoke my name
Columbus was my friend
I was why he came
He held me in his heart
We made our early claim
On sands of an empty shore
The edge of an unknown land
