Tanka by Teddy-Ngondu

Tanka by Jessy Bissal

Beautiful desert
Dunes with fine, red sand.
Spiraling winds blowing around
Camels strolling over the place
The sky resembling gigantic, blue bubble.

Beauty garnishes the Savanna;
Wildebeests migrate across Serengeti.
Waters patch natural grass carpet
in form of rivers and ponds.
Witnesses hear marvel’s scream around.

swamp fire-flies
dancing above a still pond
I play draft
as my grandfather
reads patterns in the sky

before his initiation,
he applies red ochre on his body
summer breeze blows
within a crowd
of village spectators
