Clever You

by John Garmon

Clever you snitching like a worn out world war spy
Breathing hard just from going out to get the morning paper
Suddenly having an idea and thinking you could make something happen

Wild with the stench of your unwashed ideas you yell for recognition
Someone has usurped your position in the counterfeit senate
A bag of limestone on your shoulder pretends to be granite

What happened to you where did you go why do you show up now
It is clever of you to play silly tricks like this but it is childish too
Eventually you found your way home and now you want us to love you

Such cleverness belongs in the archives of things we never appreciated
Here you stand depleted and tardy in your baggy trousers looking forlorn
It is just another clever way you’ve invented for getting attention
