Would You Like to Play a Game?~ by David Seth Smith

I’ll raise a magnum
to the pallid victory
in the mirror
and to the calumny
of that
shallow reflection
for suggesting that

all that noise

earlier in the loft
somehow balanced
the value of
those few

golden minutes
as a type of
reward, grafted
carelessly

to creation.

How feckless
that invisible purity
with haunted eyes
the color of
Wildfire,
luminescent, peering
from dried sinew
once supple

And I’ll raise ten more glasses
to the inspiration
that makes one see
the eternal
in something so immediate
and otherwise unmemorable.
