Sand, Glass and Diamonds~ by Ryan Ward

Loneliness is the voice of a broken heart,
It speaks in whispers and shouts,
Never dealing in the in-between.
I’ve got more in common with it than you.
Like the perspiration of those gone before,
Are we bound to the same end?
There’s glass in the sand but there’s diamonds too,
All stuck to our feet,
Follow in our footsteps.
In silence we…
Occasionally stir the air with thought,
Of favourite names and schoolyard games,
And talk of safer places and familiar faces.
Just strangers that get along,
There’s glass in the sand.

  1. There are some interesting metaphors at play here. The message of silence and being alone. Glass V diamonds in the sand. A journey, a path and the complex notion of watching where we travel vs. looking where we are, “There’s glass in the sand but there’s diamonds too, All stuck to our feet”. An interesting read. Thank you.
