Fortress

by Pamela Rossow

Take me by the hand entwine
your fingers with mine cradle
my heart carefully lead me
beside singing waters twisting
and turning over smooth pebbles
where my spirit plays freely.

Take me by the hand entwine
your fingers with mine cradle
my heart carefully lay me down
under a canopy of perpetual
autumn all crimson and gold
where my soul breathes easily.

Take me by the hand entwine
your body with mine cradle
my heart carefully show me how
beautiful your fortress walls are
how solid how sturdy how indestructible
this place where our love resides.
